I saw this video about a week ago and looked it up myself. The answer seems to be vast majority were in the 30s and 40s.

This actually appears to be a very, very healthy age range for a good combination of knowledge, experience, energy, and societal awareness.

the circumstances were different in those days. A 16 year old was married with children with his 13 year old wife in those days. Responsibility was mandatory to provide for ones family. Those men earned their way to where they were through their work and intelligence.

I would say the equivalency these days would be add 15 years to their ages before the same stresses those men encountered are brought to full bore on the man of today
