You are always justified pirating anything. You can donate though.

Came to say this. You are always justified in pirating.

There are only a few things I've pirated that I've felt slightly guilty about, because I got as much or more value out of it than I would have paid. All the other 100's of thousands "I'm glad I didn't spend money on this shit"

Also, the whole concept of software "subscriptions," which is just another word for "rental," is bullshit. First you "buy" the software for a lump sum then are expected to pay regularly for the "privilege" of using it. Fuck off. I feel the same way about Patreon fags who demand that you pay them a monthly salary forever because they made an incomplete Minecraft texture pack once or made a shitty video.

I originally pirated the software. Bought it to support the developer because I liked it so much. I just pirated the latest version. Still irritated about it though.

Pirate everything, but don't be an asshole, if the software ends up being good, pay for it.
I'm the one guy who spent $99 on Sublimetext.

Pirating is simply giving the consumer a chance to demo the product before choosing to hand over money to that company. The concept of providing the customer with a demo fell in place of pushing a shoddy product out the door. Pirating gives the power back to the consumer.

I already in general don't agree with IP but it becomes more clear if he is diminishing the value of the other version to attempt to push you to get the next. In that case he is a thief and thieves don't have rights. Go to his house and steal his car for all I care.

I guess I would ask, "Is there an Open Source Knock-off of this that gets me as close as possible to the paid software...

Nowadays, a lot of publishers have opted to have a client buy a program and a year's worth of updates. A lifetime subscription is also available for a higher free. However, it remains a subscription. Programs are never owned unless they are open-source.

No you aren't. If you want to pirate then do it without justification.

Happy with Affinity V1 and PDFXchange at whatever version it is. The only two paid softwares I use.
