The dawn is just so the mix has a surfactant in it, helps hold the acid to the plant matter. I agree about the salt though. I had a small rock section of my front yard that would constantly have grass growing through it so I tried "salting the earth". 40 pounds of salt and five gallons of propane from a flame weeder later, the damn grass still grew back
