I saw one motocross race. It was in the Astrodome in the late 70’s. A guy died. His family was sitting right behind us. I was done with motocross after that. Switched my interest to speed boat racing… first race, saw a guy die on Lake Palestine.
These are not risk-free activities. Even with experience and skill you can still get got. That's why people pay to watch, to see the adroitness with which these people apply their skill. That and the occasional spectacle crash.
Things with no risk aren't thrilling, therefore, they're not fun. Even something as mundane as fishing risks not getting a bite or the fish getting away. The more risk something is, the more fun it is. Some people have higher or lower tolerance to risk vs reward factors.
