Nestle’s Drumstick. Every variant of the brand is no longer legally allowed to be called ice cream (despite being sold on icecream.com) because there isn’t any ice cream in it. They’re very careful not to use the term.

You're right. They call it a 'frozen treat'

Once you notice it, you start to see it everywhere. Not just Nestle products (and subsidiaries) use “frozen dairy treat” to signify things that aren’t real ice cream. Other companies use the same terms, too. Again, fortunately, the FDA isn’t completely useless. It has legally defined several types of food, and things that don’t meet the definition aren’t allowed to use those words. Even the fucking Walmart brand “drumstick” desserts is able to explicitly say “uses real ice cream,” perhaps as a direct jab to Nestle, et al.

All I've got is this screenshot. TallestSkil said it's Nestle.

Probably palm oil.

The very same (scroll to the ingredients section).

There are less nefarious reasons they engineer this shit with oils and gels. It has a much longer shelf life, and can survive potentially dangerous temperatures. This all equals profit margins. Even the packaging is meant to keep the products shape, should it become soft during shipping / storage.

The stupidity of waiting 24 hours to see if ice cream melts is shock value. If it doesn't melt while you eat it at room temperature, don't eat it at all.

The one thing Biden might actually fix. Ice cream

[ - ] Master_Foo -1 points 2 weeksApr 14, 2024 16:25:35 ago (+0/-1)

The thing that keeps it from melting is probably gelatin or something similar.
Not a big deal, it's just that your "ice cream" is more like a gummy bear.
