“Retro” games actually focused creating an experience. Often (almost always for the greatest) had insanely good music.
“New” games just recan the game mechanics we’ve seen a million times now. Music is recanned. I only 3/4th blame them. Software is incredibly expensive to create and it has to compete with every game ever made before it. Unlike movies and music and other forms of entertainment.
