So I guess I have to move.

submitted by PeckerwoodPerry to whatever 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:24:01 ago (+40/-0)     (whatever)

Got an email yesterday saying that if I want to resign my lease they're raising the rent by $350, which is crazy. I can't do it unless I start making a lot more money and I just don't have the energy to do that anymore.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. I've been wanting to get out of this town for awhile. There's really only one person, other than my wife, that I would call a friend. I've got a ton of stuff that I now have a good excuse to get rid of, shit I don't need. Let me know if any of y'all want an antique bar, an antique letter desk, fuckin antique dresser bureau night stand set. I'd literally give it to you if you pay for shipping. Just need shit gone by July. I don't feel like moving that shit again. The bar is solid oak and like 300 fuckin pounds. It's a glorified cabinet at this point.

Fuckin hate moving, but this might be a really good thing.

Everyone's getting rid of their old wooden antiques. So I don't know in a period of time they'll be so rare they'll be worth thousands again

[ - ] Centaurus 11 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:46:02 ago (+11/-0)

In a few years everyone will be selling antique plastic items.

[ - ] Gowithit 13 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:49:33 ago (+13/-0)

"Oh man! thats acrylic. Thats the good shit". - the future

I hate the future.

The feeling is probably mutual.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:49:21 ago (+4/-0)

I don't care about the money, it's all shit I inherited. The letter desk is from 1920 when my great grandmother ran a seamstress business. I just want the stuff gone so I don't have to move it again.

[ - ] Gigglestick 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:22:16 ago (+3/-0)

If I didn’t have to pay rent for a tiny apartment I’d take that desk.

[ - ] BushChuck 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 12:39:54 ago (+3/-0)

Shit, if I was in the States I'd come grab them.

You should consider holding onto them, quality like the old days is a custom job these days.

[ - ] dass 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 16:37:12 ago (+2/-0)

Oh man, i know you have your mind made up but i would still hold on to it.
Shit like pawn stars etc just break my heart watching people sell off their ancestors' items that have been handed down for decades - and you're wanting to give it away. The stuff is irreplaceable and will never ever be seen or made again. some bozo be like 'cool - i'll keep this for a few years then trash it'.
I have some of my grandmothers' plates that i use every day - they almost 75 years old and stamped on the back.

[ - ] KosherHiveKicker 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 16:02:13 ago (+1/-0)

100 year old furniture is golden if it is quality.

Contact a local business that sells/ resells that stuff, or at least put it in storage until you can get someone to inspect and price it. They might even come pick it up if they buy it.

If it is a quality, 100 year old roll top desk or something it could be worth thousands... maybe tens of thousands if you establish it was made by a well known manufacturer.

Marketplace homeskillz

[ - ] Crackinjokes 9 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:42:58 ago (+10/-1)

Call any local bars in your neighborhood and ask if they want to buy an antique wooden bar. Also call restaurants in your neighborhood. Or nightclubs. A lot of those places like to have stuff like that and they'll give you several thousand for it

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 8 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:47:18 ago (+8/-0)

Might be a good idea. It's a parlor bar. I don't even care about the money, I just don't want to move the fuckin thing.

[ - ] NeedleStack 7 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:43:59 ago (+7/-0)

The money would help cover moving expenses and generally relieve some of your wife's stress. Take it.

[ - ] Looneyskiproony 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 17:15:42 ago (+0/-0)

Take the money.

[ - ] Centaurus 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:09:33 ago (+2/-0)

If it was a pull-up bar, I would have taken it.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 6 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:22:03 ago (+6/-0)

Got one of those too, but I'm not getting rid of it. I'm up to sixteen a day, pushing for twenty. It's my "fuck this fuckin world is fuckin retarded" release valve.

[ - ] Centaurus 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:24:15 ago (+4/-0)

Try to do one more than your previous workout. Just one. Slow and steady wins the race.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:33:04 ago (+2/-0)

I just do that, situps, and squats. I get cardio at work. It's not a priority, just something I do when I get pissed off. So like everyday. Moron in traffic? Pullups. Stupid people at work? Situps. Situps before beer especially. I think the booze works better if your blood is pumping. Squats I just do all the time. Pretty much go ass to grass whenever I get a minute.

[ - ] Centaurus 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:51:45 ago (+2/-0)

I'm typing in between sets. I do full body workouts with dumbbells and body weight for chest (flat and angled push-ups) every other day.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:12:11 ago (+3/-0)

I don't work with weights anymore, unfortunately. I've hurt myself to the point that I can't do much more than calisthenics. Been hit by a car twice, broke every rib I have, been gored by a hog, and I've taken a few too many falls. That's not even getting into the concussions. I've had four that I can remember. The fact that I am still this lucid impresses me daily. That last time with the hit and run really had me worried.

[ - ] Centaurus 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:57:48 ago (+1/-0)

That's cool. I can't do what I used to do either, but I will always do what I can. I will continue to workout in some way, shape or form until the day I can't. Keep on keeping on, bro.

[ - ] JudyStroyer 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 12:09:17 ago (+3/-0)

if you havent bought land by now youre in a real pickle. buy, find, acquire an old boat and live aboard. fix it up. or find a quiet isolated inlet and build an island. you can still do it in alaska. i dont know about the gulf. thats what i'd do if i were in your shoes.

[ - ] beece 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:44:23 ago (+4/-0)

I fucking hate moving. Hate it. Hate it so much that when our landlords raised our rent I talked my 5 roommates into buying a fixer upper together for no money down, and fixing it up.

We got the shithole (worst part of town) and almost had it fixed up when the group broke down. Imagine Walter from Big Leibauski having a conflict with 2 lightweight, but otherwise good, women. Same 1911 getting waved around haha. That was a while back. Now I own my own homes, and a duplex...and a townhome that I'm renting out but will cut loose soon, and another one at the beach. But all that took a while, and lots of drive while remembering that being broke sucked.

Best of luck PWP! I'm assuming you can't just get a roomate? "Room for rent, $500 a month".

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:56:00 ago (+3/-0)

I've had roommates in the past and it was ok. I don't want to do it anymore though. If I've got the day off there's a 90% chance I'm wearing nothing but a robe, and that's valuable to me. Wearing nothing but a robe right now.

Naw, I think we'll just move to a little town by the Gulf of Mexico, downsize and it should be fine. It just makes me a little sad thinking about leaving, but it's probably just par for the course.

[ - ] Gowithit 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:41:16 ago (+4/-0)

If your current house is the only house your cats have ever known there is a plug in to help reduce their anxiety getting used to a new one.

Happy gentrifying whatever slum neighborhood you move into next!

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 5 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 09:45:39 ago (+5/-0)

It's not.

Thanks though. I think we're gonna move to a small town on the Gulf of Mexico. I can get a job on a shrimp boat and my wife has a good job wherever we go. Wherever I go will be demographically better than here.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 4 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:16:10 ago (+4/-0)

We're looking at places in Apalachicola. We've found a few places around $800/month. They're modular homes out in the sticks, but I'm really ok with that. And there's a hospital that'll hire my wife on the spot.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:19:44 ago (+2/-0)

Good thing she has a desirable skillset. All my ex-wife had was student loan debt.

[ - ] Cunt 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 13:59:59 ago (+1/-0)

That plug in smells like synthetic cat, it's weird and yuck and if I can pick up the difference they can too. It does appear to chill them out though. I imagine they are just slowed down and clingy from having an existential crisis over what the plug in means, life is a simulation and cat can smell the matrix now or incoming invasion of AI robo-cats or some such.

Three years ago I moved. I ditched well over 60% of everything I owned. I was stressing during disposal. A week afterwards, I felt like a heavy burden was lifted off of me and felt so relieved.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 3 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 10:59:47 ago (+3/-0)

My rent recently got raised by $50, I expected $300. But work has dried up, and I may have to move into a cheaper place. Moving always sucks. But I have several items for sale on Marketplace for reasonable prices, and I aint even gettin LOWBALL offers. Nothing. Never seen it this dead. I've been buying and selling online for 20 years, mainly Craigslist, but in my area it is barely used.

[ - ] Gowithit 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 11:08:53 ago (+2/-0)

I'll trade you these beat up pair of nikes and can you deliver? Can you also throw in that other item you have listed I have a guy looking for that exact same one.

Nephew had a guy offer to trade some tools for a car.Not even good tools like heres some drills and an impact driver tools.

[ - ] dass 1 point 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 16:46:03 ago (+1/-0)

Yea, my landlord raised my rent by $50, a week before Christmas and also had to come up with the extra $200 to cover the increase for bond - at fcking Christmas ! - literally paying almost half my money in rent each week before expenses, hookers and crack. No bueno man ... and buying luxuries like food in NZ- tough times.

[ - ] Warden 2 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 17:32:21 ago (+2/-0)*

I really wish our brand of right wing had a more centralized and coordinated movement, where we had money men, property owners, business owners, who actually did things to help out our brothers, like renting to our people at a reasonable rate any time they’re in need, or for starting our own localized communities full of OUR people, nobody else, hiring our people at our small businesses, etc….We could create cells of our people in every state, who are a lot more prepared to act as a community together if/when the SHTF.

[ - ] MaryXmas 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 21:33:49 ago (+0/-0)

So people that are financially literate? Yeah, what do you want to know? It's all the boring stuff - pay your taxes and bills, live in a low cost of living area, don't take out credit cards or consumer debt. Avoid student debt, blah blah blah. The hard thing is actually doing all the shit. You sit at home complaining about crypto Jews but don't speculate or invest in the market, or any market for that matter. Yes, there are jew bankers and a terranical government working against you. You have to find a way to beat the system, ideally not at the expense of others.

Already planning the move out of this place but it's a few years off. We've decided to put up with the furniture we got unless it's required to be replace and that will not be top tier. I am already in the process of selling some stuff. My workstation desk is ikea shit. It's not going.

When is your renewal, OP?

[ - ] WillisJaxson 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 18:22:28 ago (+0/-0)

You might look into an estate sale liquidator company if there's one that works in your area. They work on commission of sales and pretty much handle the advertising, prep and display tables/racks, and most importantly the pain in the ass of dealing with the public. You can even ask if they'll be willing to haul off the unsold stuff you don't want to a donation center. Even if you're not looking to make money off your unneeded items, you'll still end up with a bit of cash in addition to less stuff to move.

[ - ] xtra_spooky_skellington 0 points 3 weeksApr 10, 2024 16:54:27 ago (+0/-0)

Sometimes moving really sucks, and other times, it's rejuvenating. Sounds like your future move may be more the latter than the former.
