Still interviewing for sales positions

Had two people flake last week. Literally applied on Indeed, did a phone interview, set an in person interview and both were no-shows. The first was a 50+ year old experienced designer and the other, a 25 year old designer. Whatever, probably dodged a bullet on both.

The next day, we get an email from a young lady who happens by our place daily, looked us up, liked what she saw and decided to ask if we were hiring. She hadn’t seen our Indeed ad, she just literally did the old school thing of being interested and reaching out. We responded with an email requesting she call in for a phone interview. Two hours later she doesn’t call, she walks in with her resume in hand, the old fashioned way. She’s 19 years old. Hired her on the spot.

Awesome, man. That all seems very foreign to the younger generation. I remember sometime around 2015 or so, i just walked into a car shop and asked if they were hiring. The owner gave me an interview on the spot and was blown away by my knowledge. Ive been a mechanic since i smoked my first dirtbike at 12 and needed to learn how to do it myself since I couldn’t pay someone else to do it. I just know this shit cold. Been doing it my whole life. For a few years he would mention it to people while i was his head mechanic and people liked the way i operated. “Yeah, he just walked in one day and owned the job”. The thing is, this is literally the only way i know how to apply for a job. I show up and talk to them. Well not anymore. I will never work for another person again. Point still stands.

I wish she wanted more hours but she has classes at UC in architecture, so we’ll take what we can get. We’ve found the kids who are doing something with themdpselves make better employees. You know, they have something to look forward to and are working on something another than gayming and upgoat posting!🤣

Mostly it is. We’ve gotten some good people from there though. These days I think it’s more that people are a fucking joke.

I find it's the indians on Indeed that are the biggest joke. Great resumes, horrible in interviews, and would argue with me when I gave them tips or hints on the evaluation tests. I filtered them to begin with, but had to interview a few to keep indeed happy.

Any tips on pre-filtering?

I don’t think we are using their full array of services anymore. I recall doing the online video interview stuff in the past. I think their program changed. We just call them directly from their application and skip all the Indeed protocol stuff. I think we pay a small flat fee for accepting their application and that’s all. We do our own phone screening using our own in house template pertaining to our company and modified for each applicant we call.
