They did the same thing with ballet last year. Some black dance academy attempted to add "black culture" dance moves to classical ballet. Came off ridiculous and repugnant. My girlfriend, who is classically trained, saw it and pointed out things about it that were not only ugly and unrefined but dangerous and potentially harmful to the dancers knees, ankles, hips, back etc.

Well, if you have to know, that as back in my 20's when my life was what could be more euphemistically refered to as, "dynamic" (I was an SF guy that deployed a LOT) and my relationships back then usually lasted about six months.

Nobody's fault really, everyone went their own way happy, it's just that I was never there.

Then I met my wife back in 1984, and we both said, "Yep, this is the one. Their crazy matches my crazy."

40 years, and six grown kids, and multiple PCS moves back and forth across the US and the world, countless deployments and more close calls than I like to sit and think about for too long, and I'm looking at her right now, sitting on the couch watching "Midsummer Murders" reruns while I'm typing this.

She doesn't appear to have Irish ancestry, but you could have someone that is half Caribbean half Irish. You could have a dark skinned individual with significant Irish heritage. She doesn't appear to have that and she doesn't even have an Irish accent. I do not believe it could be called "Irish dancing" for the sake of the performer herself.

As for the dancing itself, it isn't Irish. It is an attempt to wash away Irish culture by calling it Irish. It has a few dance moves that 'quote' Irish forms of dancing but it is not characteristically Irish.
