"A large portion of my identity is consuming product. My few joys in life are consuming product. My memories are tied to consuming product. Why have they made it harder for me to consume product?!"

"Wow, that's like that thing in the show/tv/movie/comic I like!"

Physical copies of movies have their downsides too, namely unskippable crap before menus, or the constantly evolving copy-protection.

Ever buy a movie that won't work on all of your disc drives? Infuriating. Punishing the consumer is one of the main reasons people pirate. Thankfully, nothing is worth watching anymore.

Never had a disc that doesn't work. Don't care about unskippable ads. Digital is crap, because you don't physically own the movies.

If you have the ripped files on your HDD and they're stripped of DRM, then yes you do.

If your HDD dies, you lose all your movies. Are you sure to be intelligent and not a troll?

If your HDD dies

Mirrored raid array. Pop in a new drive and repopulate the array.

Sorry, I have a life.

I'm not an autistic tard. I just put my discs in my player and watch them.

RAID or physical media backups. Are you sure you're not a complete fucking idiot?

[ - ] Conspirologist [op] -2 points 1 monthApr 1, 2024 10:36:29 ago (+0/-2)

Keep making back ups, autistic tard.

Nothing autistic about it. Go shit in a street.

If your disc gets scratched DURRR

[ - ] Conspirologist [op] -1 points 4 weeksApr 2, 2024 11:00:08 ago (+0/-1)

OK. I will lose just 1 movie. Not all of them.

I burned all the movies I ever liked and have a nice collection. If you didn't prepare before now then good luck.

I've been trying to get a movie called Wasting Away for years. I saw it around 2010 and pirated it, but lost my entire disc folder in 2014 due to a bad housemate. I was looking for it again only to find out RARBG went down, which is the only place I was able to find the complete series if Kevin Spencer a few years back. I found it streaming on 1 site but the page made all these tricks to prevent even finding what the source if the stream was so I couldn't use a downloader tool. I find out that it has an alternate name, Aaah! Zombies!, and I finally find a good copy in a decent resolution - I look for 1080p files that are at least 1.5GB and guess what this was - but there were only 2 seeders and they wouldn't connect to either Transmission nor Deluge. Imagine my surprise as I am downloading Windows 7 and 8.1 to try to install them on Chromebook (I guess I have to find the USB and SD card reader drivers) and I see that it downloaded just a few days ago.

They want absolutely all media before ie 2020 to not be searchable anymore and only show up as their post 2020 remake if you search for it.

My local department store shrunk the book section. DVDs are still on sale, not as many as there used to be though.

I browse secondhand and charity shops for old DVDs. Some you can get for 50 cents if they're having a sale.

Haven't bought a movie in forever. I like sci Fi and disaster and for the past some odd years they've been releasing them for free.

Reviews for the movie on April 8 look good.

I'm a fan of disaster movies too! For a short while I was planning to watch Leave the World Behind - till I found out it was an Obama production!

The discs had the commentary option. I actually listened to them - there was good info in there. I wish there was a streaming service that offered commentary audio option.
I have a stack of discs ready to go. Finding a player is another problem.

[ - ] Conspirologist [op] -1 points 1 monthApr 1, 2024 10:11:24 ago (+0/-1)

That's right. Discs commentaries were great. I quit collecting discs after Hollywood got woke. Anyway, I've got a new Sony player for $50. Both of my previous players don't work.

after Hollywood got woke

Hollywood was always communist. You just happened to notice it at a certain time in your life.

Try cleaning the laser lens and adjusting the focusing screw

[ - ] Conspirologist [op] -1 points 4 weeksApr 2, 2024 11:01:31 ago (+0/-1)

It's not laser. They don't switch on.
