The article is actually pretty interesting, I hope you took the time to read it; From the Article;
Scientists have long wondered why there are historical cases of scent-hounds in the 1900's, trained to chase down Western Lowland Gorillas escaped from the local Zoo, often ended up chasing down and mauling local People of Colour instead...
This week scientists at the University of Georgia's school of Primate Medicine may have answered that old question. They took a full-grown lowland gorilla, and a female black, and placed them in cages side by-side, and let the dogs choose which one they wanted to track.
Interestingly enough, the dogs were nearly 50/50 in their preference for tracking, letting the scientists know that they had similar olfactory profiles. The only exceptions noted were in dogs that had been used formerly by the police to track suspects involved in the lootings of pharmaceutical stores. The officers said:
"In those cases, 90% of the time the dog will choose the black women. Her hair just naturally smells more like the product thieves are usually stealing. I cant think of any other explanation for it...
