The shittiest part of government is that you spend 15 years raising a kid, spending hours upon hours teaching them how to operate machinery, equipment and vehicles and then, then when it's finally about to pay off they say, "No Mr. Goetbbels, your 15 year can't drive you home after you've had too many drinks because you have to be able to take over at anytime."

My 2023 Santa Fe has some automated driving features and I love it.
They can’t claim automation but are close.
On the freeway the auto lane assist keeps me in my lane and steers if I’m over the line. It also slows down cruise control if the car in front slows down.
You can basically take your hands off the wheel on the freeway, but it warns you of you do.

Because the vast majority of people aren't good drivers.

And that's not counting the various shitskin invaders ruining everything.

I pray for the day of ubiquitous self-driving cars. They don't need to be perfect, they merely need to be better than average, and they've largely accomplished that. The problem is the companies trying to protect themselves from literal armies of jewish lawyers looking for a payday.

I won't personally use one, at least up until I can no longer function. I've gone through too much training/experience driving/piloting all sorts of vehicles to be comfortable having one drive itself.

I also build/maintain large and complex systems. I know these jewish corpos won't spring for the $2 sensor that would prevent catastrophic failure.

That being said, the average NPC would probably be better off using them.

I'm talking about cars in general, whether they're 'self-driving' or not. But even that is a tiny subset of the bigger problem.
