I have purchased almost every book and mini. Even pre-ordered the next minis- got all kinds of neoprene battlemats and dice too, but I've never played. I want to play it eventually, there's just nobody that wants to take the time to learn within my circle at the moment.
It’s a different kind of game than warhammer. The miniatures aren’t as cool. Game is more tactical, comparable to Space Hulk. People would rather spend hundreds on an army and terrain models than play BattleTech. It’s far cheaper to play but hobbyists are just not into it. The PC games are much more popular because mech combat sims are easier to make than a full scale Warhammer simulation or FPS.
As far as books are you just talking about the reference books or the novels? BT fiction was really good.
I love MechWarrior 2 more than pretty much every game I’ve ever played. Raptor: Call of the Shadows is probably my #1 but MW2 was an experience. I was so impressed by the CGI cutscenes.
If you loved MechWarrior 2, then you would 100% love TitanFall2.
I absolutely HATE Microsoft but that game is just so much fun. It is next level. My only complaint is that they didn't put enough single player campaign content with it.
The original game is cheap now for $3.00 USD or less. (Try this first to see if you like it.)
There is an "Ultimate Edition" with more single player campaign content (which is badass), but the rest is just skins, weapons, and other bullshit that you don't really need for $29.00
I'm talking reference/rules/advanced rules/and rpg books. I have some digital copies of some fiction, like the Kerensky trilogy, but haven't actually read them yet.
Cool stuff and one day I'll have more free time and I'll get to play.
