The government puts someone in jail for weed and then says if you plea, we'll let you out. If you deny it, we're going to hold you at least a year until trial and then you still might lose. That's not much of a choice.
Most people are entitled to Bond in Georgia state cases. IDK about Mr Kyle or federal charges. Prosecutors always ask to deny bond. It's just a question of whether the judge will allow them. If you can get out, you have a lot more leverage to tell them to go fuck themselves. It still sucks though because the system treats you like you're guilty for 3 years while you await trial. Ask how I know. They can require drug/alcohol tests just to be on bond. I'm not saying that's my situation, but I've heard of it. Effectively, you can be on probation for a crime that you've not yet been convicted of. So people still have some incentive to plea. Though I never would.
I don't think Meyers killed Ratliff, but I think he knows a lot more than he claims. But in the ATF long game, this is another win for them getting another person convicted on some bogus charges to have that person unable to own a firearm to protect themselves.
Here is my theory. The channel was owned by nationalists. They liked the Russian accent because of Russian conservative ideology. The gun shop owner was killed by random niggers. The feds tried to frame the channel host just because he was nationalist and smoked weed.
I actually think the ATF killed Ratliff. Not sure the circumstances but definitely something went sideways when the ATF walked in for the Xth time to "review paperwork" and things came to a head. I think the plan WAS to frame Meyers but his alibi was airtight, which means the ATF blew it's wad too early and didn't have Meyers where they wanted him. So they handed it over to the GBI and trumped up the drug charges and ran stories in the media to make it look like Meyers was involved but stopped short of saying it.
I think Ratliff was the ATF target, not Meyers and they tried to blackmail Meyers with drug charges to roll on Ratliff, which he refused to do. I bet the ATF showed up late for another harassment session and guns got pulled. ATF didn't want their guys going down for murder so that is why it has remained "unsolved". A couple of thugs killing Ratliff during a "robbery" or something else makes no sense. Whoever killed him spent a lot of time at the scene, removing the security equipment and cleaning up the place. Random thugs don't do that.
Maybe down the road they'll pin it on some Tyrone but the ATF got what they probably wanted, Ratliff and his store gone.
Kyle more than likely killed that guy. He has spoken about it and tried to play it off in podcasts that the cops just turned up to his house and raided him. There was a lack of evidence but he knew something more than he was letting on and he showed no remorse for what happened, he didn't even appear sad about what happened to his best friend.
About 2 years after that incident they caught him with weed and gave him the absolute maximum penalty for possession because they knew about the murder and what happened and needed him to at least serve some time as a felon. He escaped justice for either the murder directly, or witholding information about the murder so they gave him a weed charge eventually.
He now sits on PKA podcasts bitching about wingsofredemption in this weird pseudo-reality where he thinks hes famous because he's talented, not because 1. The guy who supplied him the guns is why he's famous and 2. He stole Wing's idea of the podcast.

I don't know how many times they caught him, but usually the first one is free unless they have a record of you actually buying it. as long as you can claim someone just tried to dropship on you, you get a warning normally.

This is not the maximum penalty for weed. Any felony can carry (at least) a 1 year prison sentence.
