There are a group of men who play women who have issues but wanting to look at something pretty is a legit reason. I dont see why you woul want to play female in an mmo as that reduces the chance to meet women online. Some games also have some quirks like code vein where I played female cause all the male characters I created ended up looking like maskjesus.

The goal is to project yourself into the main character.
When you pick a female to play as the main character you are basically becoming a digitalized tranny. This is why I will always oppose having to play a female in video games.

You must have never played a proper RPG. Proper RPGs will have totally different options and sometimes even significant story changes for male/female main characters. In some games, you get a completely different party member based on the gender of the player character. In some games you may have seduction/charm options for women when playing a male and for men when playing a female. (Yeah you could say this is "gay" if you're a man doing this as a woman character, but if you're that insecure about your sexuality, you've got a lot to unpack.) There are also several cases in games where picking a female character gives you less overall dialogue in a game which technically makes it faster for speed running because there is less text to spam click through.
OR, if you play an MMO, a multiplayer game. And you just so happened to be me playing this multiplayer game at the age of, idk, 13? Then you saw guys giving away free items to other players who were "girls" (girl is an online acronym for Guy In Real Life), you realized the potential to get free shit and changed your gender so that you could do absolutely nothing and get free shit from losers.

Creating your own character as a women is a loser/beta/virgin/queer thing to do, unless there is a valid reason. Never done it myself but if you're playing an arpg and want to do a witch, only exception I can think of and that's cause path of exiles only option for that class is a chick. Always do male builds. Sadly most games today with female main characters are pozzed AF, womb raider 2012 was awesome though. I'm sure tons of normal dudes enjoy nier automata and I'm sure weirdos enjoy it too, haven't played it myself though but it pisses off the libs so I kind of support it lol
Nier: Automata was a fun action game about robots fighting war with other robots and some nonsensical plot about existentialism and the meaning of life. I don't know about any of that shit and I remember the story being pretty up its own ass. But I got to shoot lasers at giant mechs, fly futuristic airplanes, and blow shit the fuck up.
When Yoko Taro the dev of the game was asked by western media why he decided to make the main characters sexy women his response was a long winded way of saying "I like girls with a nice ass"
When I play RPGs I almost always play a male first then a female again to see if the story changes at all. A well written RPG will have story differences.
