niggers mimicking human behavior

I did it different.

I drew the line through the equals sign.

5+5+5 (is not equal to) 550.

But, while the equation is true, due to your solution, it doesn't meet the objective of making 5+5+5 equal to 550.
Nice try though...

He's Texan and mafz iz raycis!

That wasn't the bet.

He put $200 down and said make 5+5+5=550 a true statement with one line.

I did exactly that. I put the line through the equals sign and made the statement a true statement.

That was the bet...
The older kid starts with saying "5+5+5=550" MAKE IT TRUE!

What the older kid is asking the younger kid to do specifically, is to make 5+5+5 (on the left side of the equation) equal 550 (On the right side)!

[ - ] FreeinTX 0 points 1 monthMar 20, 2024 13:26:11 ago (+0/-0)

If that were true 545+5 wouldn't have been right either.

You're trying to reinterpret what he said. He said, make this statement true.

For the benefit of those among us that DIDN'T take Common Core Math, Please Explain how 545+5 DOESN'T equal 550. ;-)

Now, you're walking back what you said.

What the older kid is asking the younger kid to do specifically, is to make 5+5+5 (on the left side of the equation) equal 550 (On the right side)!

You said the guy wanted the niglet to prove 5+5+5=550 using one line. Niglet didn't do that. He changed the equation to show 545+5=550 which is a true statement. That's all I did. I changed the equation using 1 line. I simply made it an inequality, which made the statement a true statement.

Incorrect, I just responded to an earlier response below, see my response there, It'll cover this question too.

When I was a very young kid. we would go to my grandparents. The adults would play card games, mostly Poker. Enviably, they would get into a mostly friend argument, but voices would get raised. I would shake my head, and think to myself, "What a bunch of Idiots", I am now realizing that I am becoming one of those idiots.

Draw 1 line to make this equation true🤔

This is the objective. If it wasn't a setup, the line though the equals sign would be the one line making the equation true.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 1 point 1 monthMar 19, 2024 21:40:09 ago (+1/-0)

But, the premise is that 5+5+5 MUST EQUAL 550
There isn't an option to have the left side of the equation be out of balance with the right side. Listen to how the older guy introduces the problem to the kid.

Youre wrong. He says draw 1 line to makke dis equawtion tru.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 0 points 1 monthMar 20, 2024 09:17:27 ago (+0/-0)

NO! You've got it wrong!
The older kid starts with saying "5+5+5=550" MAKE IT TRUE!

What the older kid is asking the younger kid to do specifically, is to make 5+5+5 (on the left side of the equation) equal 550 (On the right side)!

Listen to him again.

"5+5+5=550 this equation is incorrect. All you got to do, is draw one line to make it true."

Again "true" (Read: Correct) meaning, the left side equals the right side.

The goal is to get the first half of the equation to reconcile (equal) the latter half of the equation. In other words, the goal of the problem is to get 5+5+5 to equal 550. Crossing out the equal sign doesn't do that! It essentially negates the equal sign leaving you with an imbalanced equation.

It's like saying "take these ingredients and make them equal cake":

Cement + Eggs + Water = Cake

"And you say cross-out the equal sign..." That still doesn't make cake.

The solution is to alter the cement to be flour. THAT makes cake!

Again "true" (Read: Correct) meaning, the left side equals the right side.

As you say, "true". The sole goal is to make the equation true. There are zero instructions to make the right side equal the left. "True" is the goal.

5+5+5≠550

Changing the equal sign to 'not equal' makes this equation true.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 0 points 1 monthMar 20, 2024 13:45:53 ago (+0/-0)

Not correct, the older of the two boys stipulates that one side of the equation equals the other side of the equation. The only way to bring the equation into equilibrium IS to turn "5+5+5" into "545 + 5" on the left hand side SO THAT it equals what's on the left hand side! Putting a slash through the equal sign brings the equation into DIS-equilibrium...

So it becomes a binary problem, are we trying to bring the problem into equilibrium or DIS-equilibrium?

5+5+5=550 is NOT the same problem as 5+5+5≠550 They both might be true, BUT, the issue is what are we tying to do, are we looking for equilibrium or DIS-equilibrium. THAT! is the question! I submit equilibrium is the goal of this exercise!
