Just watched the 1970 MASH movie

submitted by Panic to movies 1 monthMar 17, 2024 21:41:35 ago (+21/-0)     (movies)

Based on the earlier book MASH, it includes several things not permissible in movies today. One black character was called "Spearchucker Jones". The guy who thought he was becoming gay (called himself a 'fairy') decided to commit suicide and was given a sleeping pill instead of poison by the doctors, then was 'cured' of being gay in his sleep by the assistance of a frisky nurse.

Just try stunts like that in today's America. Can't be done.

The only thing I remember about mash is when the shitty song and intro came on that means cartoons was over.

watched as a young kid and i dont know the show felt more like a soap opera to me than a comedy/sitcom . the fake background laughter is what ruined it for me

Seasons 1 - 11 with no laugh track.

It's a completely different show.

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 2 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 21:26:10 ago (+2/-0)

I would actually watch that. There were a few episodes where they intentionally omitted the laugh track because they were trying to be ... serious ... just to pound it over the heads of those too stupid to understand that they WAR IS BAD!!! Those are my least favorite episodes.

Odd. I watched this as a kid (in the 80s) and I remember it not having a laugh track.

Yeah, it's not like I didn't like war movies. Platoon, full metal jacket, rambo 2 and Patton were my favorites at the time. It just seemed corny and crap. I even saw the helicopter and thought wtf shitty helicopter is that?

[ - ] DoughGoy 2 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 06:24:17 ago (+2/-0)

That's exactly what I think of too. I used to watch that old helicopter land and then turn the TV off.

The theme song for the tv show was more of the jew bullshit hoping to influence White people.
If you didn't know the name of the theme song is, "suicide is painless". And yes, it is trying to make suicide look appealing.
A very shitty song that always left me with an empty hollow feeling in my gut.

Important to realize that that like most stuff was written by Jews so that means Jews are Homo haters and racist. Of course we know they are it's just kind of funny to point it out. The hypocrisy and all.

I think I remember about the MASH TV show was when they suddenly introduced this character that started wearing a dress under the excuse and he was trying to get out of the army I pretending to be crazy I saw it for what it was which was trying to get people used to men wearing dresses and I thought it was revolting. And over time I've been proven right. The joke was the excuse to put the man in the dress. What they really wanted to do was put the man in the dress.

Larry Gelbart also wrote Tootsie, which frankly, even for the standard of movies about cross-dressing, pales in comparison to Some Like it Hot which plays every bit as well today as it did as a new release 65 years ago. Billy Wilder had to leave GerWOMANy because of you “people.”

The Mary Tyler Moore Show also aged better by far as far as 1970s sitcoms go.

Never watched the movie, but I watched the tv show all the time. I laughed at all of the funny stuff because, well, it was funny. Even then though, my child's mind knew that a lot of the propaganda on it was stupid holywood trying to get people to think the way they wanted them to think.

MASH is jews trying to make the Vietnam Korean war look bad because their cousins started the war and were using it to spread "communism".

The yippie/hippie movement (summer of love etc) was also jew led pro-communist anti-Vietnam war propaganda that ended as soon as the war was declared over.

MASH was set during the Korean war.

You're right my bad. Same difference in propaganda though.

It’s actually a great movie. But yes, couldn’t make it today. Also Blazing Saddles. Which was hilarious.

[ - ] GreenSaint 2 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 02:17:41 ago (+2/-0)

An america we could be proud of

[ - ] JewsAintHonkies 1 point 1 monthMar 18, 2024 18:33:56 ago (+1/-0)

Blazing Saddles aged better, as practically every other post on this site demonstrates. The attempt to link Korea to Vietnam is boomer as fuck.

I've seen the movie and the show 6 gorillion times. I always liked the witty humor and drama. I will never forget Clinger wearing that fuzzy dress and flying away with that hang glider.

Finally looked up the book's author, Richard Hooker on jewpedia. Real name was Hiester Richard Hornberger Jr, jewish of course. But then it got interesting. "...best-known work is his novel MASH (1968), based on his experiences as a wartime United States Army surgeon doctor during the Korean War."

"A colleague described Hornberger as "a very good surgeon with a tremendous sense of humor." Although Hornberger did label his tent "The Swamp" (as do the characters in the novel), he was politically conservative." Turns out, MASH was autobigraphical and that Hawkeye was him. The others in the book were based on real people too.

Not all jews?

Like a good vampire, or something, eh?

[ - ] JewsAintHonkies 0 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 18:21:45 ago (+1/-1)

What’s a “good” vampire? One who sucks blood from a criminal and then donates it to the anemic?

Seriously, though, September 11 pushed a lot of Jews to the right and October 7 pushed even more Jews even further right, and we are seeking accountability so watch what you say about the Jews or you will be part of that accountability.

Then the TV version is the biggest bastardization of all. They made him the meathead with a scalpel.

Now I want a Daily Wire remake. Anything to get it away from Disney.

As a teen, I read MASH upon my uncle's recommendation. He had several MASH books, so next, came MASH goes to Maine, MASH goes to London, MASH goes to New Orleans. Didn't read the others about Paris or Las Vegas. There may be even more of them, I dunno.

Only saw the movie once until now, and was disappointed, as it was just stunts and snippets from the first book and didn't have the broader view of the war as as I had hoped. No perspective, but its just Hollywood, so I should expect less.

FWIW, my dad joined the USMC on his 17th birthday and got shot in Korea, losing a lung. Saved by a MASH unit.

I want to go back to eat with North Korea so that we can get more episodes of MASH... Maybe with less Jews?

[ - ] JewsAintHonkies 0 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 18:17:03 ago (+0/-0)

The only conceivable reason T0n¥ D@nz@ and $¢0++ B@¡0 were put on this Earth was to make Alan Alda look good by comparison.

I’ve seen every MASH episode six million times but I’ve never seen the movie. I always thought it my skew my memories of the awesomely funny series.
Should I watch it?

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 5 points 1 monthMar 17, 2024 23:34:13 ago (+5/-0)

No. Absolutely degenerate. The author of the original book "MAS*H" disavowed it and was given a screen credit for both the movie and the TV series because the studios were required to. He wanted nothing to do with it.

[ - ] JewsAintHonkies 1 point 1 monthMar 18, 2024 18:32:37 ago (+1/-0)

20th Century-Fox hired a formerly blacklisted writer named Ring Lardner to write the screenplay. Robert Altman recognized it was shit, so he let his actors improvise. Barely any of that screenplay ended up in the movie, but the only Oscar given to it was given to Ring Lardner.

Hofstader also sued over Trapper John, MD to get royalty as he was owed, and to establish whether it was a spinoff of the book, the movie, or the TV series MASH.

I wish he would have sued over AfterMASH. Yikes!

[ - ] Lost_In_The_Thinking 1 point 1 monthMar 18, 2024 21:18:46 ago (+1/-0)

Very close. If I might correct you, the screenplay was written by his son, Ring Lardner Jr. His father, Ring Lardner was of an earlier generation and wrote one of the great humorous baseball books "You Know Me Al", published in 1916. Ring Lardner Jr. was a communist and was indeed formerly blacklisted, deservedly. If anyone remembers the "Hollywood 10", he was one of that group. Personally, I think he should have done time in prison just for being a commie.

The book, the movie, and the TV show were all misogynistic homophobic communist propaganda that has aged like milk. Richard Hofstader was nothing but a glorified babykiller who made another killing off the adaptations of his crappy book. Elliott Gould was doing Disney movies 10 years after this. Alan Alda has always been a hypocrite and a nepo baby whose father was the original Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls before Marlon Brando did the movie. And even the theme song has always been stupid and poorly written because the lyrics were written by Robert Altman’s son who was only 14 at the time! Another boomer nepo baby!

The character of Spearchucker Jones was actually based on a Black MASH doctor from North Carolina. Getting rid of him was the first mistake the TV version made.

The entire MASH legacy has been nothing but toxic, but the TV version is the worst to come out of it by far. It and All in the Family are evidence of how boomers have no taste in entertainment and no idea what constitutes progress.

What's wrong with being misogynistic and homophobic?

[ - ] Monica 0 points 1 monthMar 18, 2024 10:46:07 ago (+0/-0)

The tv show was kinda dumb but if you're interested there's a MASH sequel TV spinoff called 'after mash'.
