By modern definition, crepuscular rays are an optical illusion. An illusion meaning that it appears like one thing but is something else in reality. Eratosthenes would have no reason to believe his eyes were not telling him the truth and the crepuscular rays emitting from the clouds would have suggested to him that the sun is small and local.

Eratosthenes would have also seen this his entire life.

Eratosthenes had absolutely no reason to ever presume that the earth was around. The only argument you would have is that Aristarchus claimed that he determined the size and distance of the Sun.

How did Aristarchus calculate the distance to the Sun?

Aristarchus realized that when the Moon was exactly half illuminated, it formed a right triangle with the Earth and the Sun. Now knowing the distance between the Earth and the Moon, all he needed was the angle between the Moon and Sun at this moment to compute the distance of the Sun itself.

Ok, so how did he know the distance between the Earth and the Moon?

Aristarchus timed how long the Moon took to travel through Earth's shadow and compared this with the time required for the Moon to move a distance equal to its diameter.

So the observation has to do with the shape of the earth, the size and distance of the Sun, and the behavior of shadows. Crepuscular rays should tell us that the sun is small and local, which would mean that the world is flat. He would have no reason to think that crepuscular rays were an illusion. In fact, the reflection of the sun or moon off of water, as it appears to stretch across the entire body of water and touch the observer's feet, proved that the crepuscular rays are not an illusion.

So Eratosthenes did indeed prove the world is flat whether he agrees that it is or isn't.
