This is supposed to be effective at scaring away a lot of dangerous predators. Here's a similar video where a fucking gorilla is charging a British soldier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KujmrcF0ZxU
Predators seem to be able to make very basic "risk/reward" calculations. When they rush at a potential prey animal, and that prey animal shows no fear- rather, it stands up real tall and starts making really loud noises, it's like the predator thinks "Hmm, it's not running away, maybe it could kill me?" The last think a predator wants is a brutal fight- a broken leg could mean death for a predator in the wild.
Lol. Had to check, and yes 8 bpm when hibernating; so probably not gonna be charging you with that heartrate :) “a summer bear’s heart beat can range from 40 to 50 beats per minute; during hibernation, it drops to 8 to 19 beats per minute.” Bear Hibernation: Facts and Myths from the Den | Outdoor Life https://www.outdoorlife.com/hunting/bear-hibernation-denning-facts/
I knew it had to be hibernating heart rate. There's no way 8 beats per minute would be enough to pump blood through a huge animal like that to keep it conscious, hahaha.
thats why you use a high caliber handgun like a magnum 500 to kill a bear, because the shockwave it creates makes all the small blood vessels burst. instant death.
HA...I have to throw in a little story about a time a few years back when I was sitting in my "bear area" and my recently deceased neighbor was walking over to sit with me...out of nowhere an adolescent bruin came barrelling full tilt out of the bush to the right of him and was headed right for him in what I even thought was going to be an attack, my neighbor is frozen in his tracks, you're not going to outrun a charging bear, I'm watching but something held me back from drawing my .44mag, and that bear brushed his leg as it barreled by him...the bear was running after another bear that was not part of our clan....a minute later bear comes to sit with us and is hounding buddy for treats, buddy is sitting in his chair and bear has his big paw on his knee as it's munching down peanuts that buddy's feeding him...buddy and I spoke about that he said that he wasn't feared of anything because there was no reason for the bear to be aggressive but it was somewhat perplexing...was I ever glad that I didn't pull that .44...and that's the story.
@Con77...HA...he was pretty cool with it...anyone not in touch with the "natural order" of things here would have shit and then suffered trauma seizures for life but the bears knew him, he actually stayed pretty cool...

The ending was fucking funny, too, hahaha.

Even if you shoot it in the heart it can live long enough to kill you.
