I think the reason for this is because American "elites" (like the Clintons, Obamas, etc.) use the island for easy human trafficking. Probably best if people's attention is diverted from Haiti as much as possible in their eyes. Think about it: who honestly cares or lifts a finger if a Haitian child goes missing?
