I mean, it clearly did not explode from the lighter. He had already turned it off before it even exploded.

It's a pretty common way of checking for gas leaks and it's not as dangerous as people act like it is. If that explosion was caused by a gas leak being ignited, it would have happened the moment he sparked the flint.

The fact there are lights on in that room, etc, makes it damned unlikely the house was full of gas.
