most of it is breaking apart and disintegrating. Same reason 9/11 happened, one of the reasons was the twin towers were old and needed to be removed but the cost to renovate them was too high. NYC is now a literal, crumbling shithole
The reason modern concrete structures deteriorate so quickly without maintenance is because planned obsolescence is integrated into many facets of our civilization not limited to technology to include even the infrastructure we use.
