Icemonkey household in total upheaval

submitted by TheOriginal1Icemonkey to whatever 2 monthsMar 4, 2024 00:22:03 ago (+11/-0)     (whatever)

We’ve finally decided to pull the trigger on the rest of our interior getting finished. I’ve gotten a few of my interior doors installed, but there’s still six left to do. We need all new casing and baseboards throughout and window trim, as well as drywall and texture work in three of the rooms. Change all the lighting, switches and outlets as well as redoing some previously fucked up work in our bathroom, like the whole tile shower enclosure , new glass and lighting and then paint everything out.

So, we’re packing everything up into rented bins out back and moving next door. The same crew who did the kitchen a few months ago is coming in to get it all done. It’s just more than I can get done, even though I have the skills and tools. I work six days a week and it’s just never gonna happen by me. I’ve come to a place where I just have to sub this stuff out and I should have done it years ago.

As of right now, I have no idea where anything is, there’s a pile of shit for donation, the garbage cans are full, but I have a cold beer. Life is good

I do that kinda work every day. It's chaos until the last second, then suddenly it's done.

Sounds great, Mr. And Mrs. Ice!

It’s way past due. This is all the stuff you do before you move into an old crusty house, except we didn’t have any money back then. All we did was tear out the carpet, have the wood floors refinished and then we moved in. It’s been ten years and little by little it’s been getting done. This it the final stuff for the interior. The exterior stuff got done along the way, like windows and doors and roof and paint.
I’m not doing this again though. I’ve always lived in remodel projects and the next one needs to be turn key. It’s a lot of work and it’s very tiresome.

I hear ya man. It frustrates me to no end hiring out, but with a family and job and only so many hours in the day sometimes it just needs to get done. Good that you have some trustworthy people to do the work.
