Love it or hate it, it seems like AI will be writing all the code very soon.

[ - ] Sector2 3 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 17:05:31 ago (+3/-0)

but I don't know want else I want to do.

You don't sound all that enthusiastic about doing this. If this is something you just settled on because you had to pick something, maybe it's time to reevaluate?

There's a million things out there you can choose from. Few of the enjoyable options require a degree, and many don't lead you to wage slavery.

You're right I think its time I reevaluate my choices.

Sooner the better give the debt and mental cost colleges charge

Go clear your mind. Do exercise, do drugs. do something that clears your thought process. Then, internally ask yourself 'what is it that I want'.

I'm a dev. Go learn C# using MVC framework before you fuck with C++.

And dude, look. All jobs are jobs. CS is fucking hard and not fun, it pays well. If you're looking for some kind of fulfilling career, it doesn't exist if you can't picture it now.

Do it, get the money, and keep looking around. CS is one of the last careers that will afford you a middle class living in clown world.

[ - ] anon 1353785 1 point 1 monthFeb 28, 2024 22:52:34 ago (+1/-0)

C++ sucks why are you even doing that

[ - ] anon 1046222 [op] 0 points 1 monthFeb 29, 2024 08:08:41 ago (+0/-0)

Its required for the major

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:49:00 ago (+1/-0)

EE? CS? For god's sake don't say GameDev.

Just do it. Then do it more. Look at outside sources of info, the book is informative but it's also boring as fuck. Videos of how-to are key to understanding this shit. Little projects you can do on the side will help as well.

Don't just copy-paste your code. You need to get a good understanding of it or you won't pass later classes. Don't get stuck doing tutorials. Try small projects on your own. When you get stuck, look at the documentation, then try a video, then a tutorial for that one thing, then, once you get it, stop and keep trying on your own.

If you just keep trying, keep coding, you will understand it. Keep trying other methods of learning.

...try Mechanical Engineering or Explosives Ordnance Engineering, Heavy Duty & Crane mechanic or Hoisting Engineer...any of those will keep you gainfully employed anywhere in the world and if you're really good your name will carry itself world wide making you a sought after asset...oh yeah, and when you've achieved status you'll never have to compile a resume' ever again...fuck, I think I've only submitted 2 resumes' in my life and that was the early 80s...gaming is for fags, computers are great for "AUTOCAD" and submitting a post to VOAT.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:51:27 ago (+1/-0)

Computers run the world. The workers are greatly underpaid/valued though. Intentionally, as has been revealed. They keep trying to dump as many idiot browns into the profession in an effort to keep it running without the White man, but that's starting to fail. And fail big, if you've been paying attention.

[ - ] anon 3259137 0 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 17:42:09 ago (+0/-0)

...computers are only as good as the power that keeps them going, nobody wants to work today, everybody wants a clean easy computer related job that pays nothing due to the saturated market of computer techs...

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 0 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 17:44:33 ago (+0/-0)

the power that keeps them going

Keep running for that fantasy. I'm sure all those people like me who know how to create that power are just going to give up and die.

Stupid question, this isn't your first programming language, is it? If so, you're fsck'd. C++ is a horrible language and will turn you completely off.

Python is a much better language to start learning with. Not fond of Java, Javascript is a bit better, but still harder than Python. Then C# is a very useful language to learn. Once you've got all of those then you can tackle C++.

[ - ] anon 1046222 [op] 0 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 17:26:31 ago (+0/-0)

Yes its my first language unfortunately

[ - ] anon 1556188 0 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 17:58:10 ago (+0/-0)

Yoy. Seriously, drop that course, unless you want to be scarred forever.

[ - ] anon 3400281 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:11:53 ago (+1/-0)

some better ideas instead:

Learn javascript and make white nationalist online role-playing grinding games to create wn communities and foster discussion

Make twitter and rumble accounts and make/upload effective propaganda

[ - ] anon 2969014 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 15:50:45 ago (+1/-0)

Can I ask why you're going to school to learn software programming when you can learn it online for free.

You know the best way to learn software programming right now. Go to chatgpt and get it to write programs for you and then look through them and understand them and get it to rewrite programs and you edit it and then you ask it to tell you if it's wrong.

Then you actually write some programs that you can show somebody that you've written and you set up a web page maybe that's running some JavaScript you wrote or a back end that you wrote and something else. You want a job in programming you just do programming. You don't go get a degree.

If you're dead set up getting a degree then get a degree in something that requires certification and the certification requires a accredited college degree. Like an engineering certification or a real estate brokerage license can be helped if you have a credited college degree other things like that. Programming is the last thing in the world that I would go to college to learn. It's not that programming is a bad thing to know it's just that colleges the worst way to learn that and everybody in that industry kind of looks at people who went to college to learn programming and the first thing they think is this guy doesn't know anything about the field.

Yes I'm seriously considering changing majors. I just want to finish a degree. I was wondering what other options are there other real estate brokerage or engineering that you would suggest

[ - ] anon 3250576 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 15:19:08 ago (+1/-0)

It's all a game. Think of it like one. Your time right now is devoted to c++. Play the game and put in the time. You are building a good foundation for life. Do not waste this and quit. Go to your prof and ask for advice on how to do better, key concepts, everything. Set up a weekly meeting with him. I never asked for help and it was a huge mistake. Also, don't listen to the asshats here, they move rocks for a living. Nothing wrong with moving rocks but you have a different path and opportunity.

[ - ] mannerbund 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 14:46:57 ago (+1/-0)

Uh, what part makes you struggle? Why are you going the route of C++, are you young-ish and trying to get into game dev?

[ - ] anon 1046222 [op] 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 15:01:59 ago (+1/-0)

Yes and its also required for the major.

[ - ] mannerbund 2 points 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:02:04 ago (+2/-0)

Ideally, find a passion project, a jr type game you can push out in C++, which gets you excited to some degree to finish it.

The reason people make the same dumb games, apps, and utilities, is often not because they have a ground breaking idea, but because they need to learn/sharpen a skill set.

Building a basic chat server teaches about websockets, concurrency, and other concepts, etc.

Do you know other languages?

[ - ] anon 1158853 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:34:28 ago (+1/-0)

if you're looking into gamedev work, that is what i do, ask away.

C++ hasn't been relevant in years its all about current year shit. Look into Rust, Scala, Vue3, Typescript

[ - ] anon 1906838 1 point 2 monthsFeb 28, 2024 16:32:42 ago (+1/-0)

Don't listen to this guy quoting blogs.

Blogs are fuckwits who can't do so they teach/preach

Typescript is as faggotry as fuck, made by low iq cretins who don't understand the most basic principle that JS IS A FUCKING LOOSELY TYPED LANGUAGE AND FOR REASONS.

fucking dipshits could of gone with anything other than bastardizing JS through a munted compiler.

And every other ts user spams any:
facepalm

C++ warts and all is huge and here to stay.

Avoid blog driven, thing of the month, trendy bs, add no value, languages.

C#, c++, Javascript, php. Rule this world and will remain doing do.

Stick to core languages.

And watch c# with its multi platform do to android/Linux what teams has done to telephony.

Microsoft just has that degree of clout
