What are people who don't leave thier house, especially people working remote, do with their money that they're always broke or cannot afford things?

submitted by iThinkiShitYourself to AskUpgoat 3 monthsFeb 21, 2024 15:47:30 ago (+1/-1)     (AskUpgoat)

I know a guy working for USPS, he has made 120k per year for at least 7 years straight, and he seems broke all the time and lives in the shittiest house I know of, leased his vehicle, is making payments on his cell phone, doesn't own a tv (because he's too stupid to know how to hook it up and doesn't want a technician to come in his house and see his filthy existence). How/why does this guy appear to be broke?

I know another guy who works remote and goes months at a time without setting foot out his front door who makes 71k per year (and has for many years, and before that he was making at least 65k for 9 straight years), and he was talking about mortgaging a house. Mortgaging................ a house. How does he not have enough money saved at this point to buy a house outright? He doesn't go anywhere or do anything, and he hasn't for 11, maybe 12 years, that i know about (it might be more).

I know another guy who makes 100k base pay, gets a ton of overtime too for an easy job, and cannot even afford to hang with the guys to go out for a drink once every other month, and he winds up driving for uber/lyft/door dash to pay his bills. And because this guy is broke he also barely leaves the house.

What are these people spending their money on?

Things that are NOT draining these people's bank accounts:
1. fast food for every meal (this cannot generate enough cost to absorb that much money)
2. gasoline

When you spend $30-$50 per meal, 3-4 times a day, it adds up.

I know of people like this through my sisters. They do the DD thing, pay outrageous sums, monthly, for cellphones, internet, cars, etc. They have no concept of what uses electricity and so their electric bill is horrifying.

They pay other people to do everything for them. Things like air their tires up, clean their car, fix minor things around the house, and so on. This is a huge cost as well.

And of course they are signed up to every service they can possibly get their hands on. And maxxed-out credit cards as well.

In other words, they just piss it all away on useless shit, financing, debt, and laziness.

And maxxed-out credit cards as well.

Mmm...hundreds of dollars out the door before you add any additional expenses.

why don't you ask them?

2 of them will flip their shit if i ask. the other idk, but i already asked him about his pay and he probably won't like me prying more, though I've seen people not giving a crap about that for years now. people will straight up show me their bank account balances, ledgers or even credit card statements

How the fuck am I supposed to know what some fucking losers I dont even know spend their money on?

the point of the examples in the post was to indicate a trend and perhaps a generality that someone here might have dug into and discovered.

They're probably simps supporting only fans whore lifestyles jacking off at their computer screen

I am 99% sure the guy working for USPS did this IRL with prostitutes he met at comic cons

you say they never leave, do they have visitors?

1 of them will have visitors. the one has unwanted family member visitors come over (unwanted because they distract him from his tablet for seconds at a time, and his attention must remain unbroken)

Maybe they have poor relatives they are helping financially.

Drugs, hookers, gambling, paying off student loans...could be a lot of things. You only know as much about them as they let you know.

Doordash doubles or triples the cost of food. You could use services like Wholefoods to deliver, but lets be real: these faggots aren't cooking at home.

Designer IPAs and wines aren't cheap

Multiple streaming services on top of internet plans often cost much more than a cable plan alone.

Not as common now, but smoking (weed, tobacco, cigars, etc.) is an expensive vice

Depending on the city your in, even a studio or 1 bedroom apartment will cost more than 2 grand a month.

The bigger question is how and why do you know those people?
