Update- the asshole just bought the boat last week and this was his first time using it.

I've been watching a lot of videos about shipwrecks lately. The stupidity and cowardice of some people who end up at sea is fucking ASTOUNDING.
This guy never sailed before, has he? Any sane sailor would've seen the conditions you described and said "Well, maybe tomorrow".
