An important distinction, to be sure.

A funny thing happened to me in this regard. Once I stopped thinking of them as humans and rather as monkeys playing at being human à la King Louis in Tarzan, my opinion changed dramatically.

All of a sudden, instead of being dismal failures as human beings, they became phenomenally successful as monkeys who could convince us that they were human. After all, they can speak (after a fashion), wear pants, hustle, drive cars, etc.

I still don't want to live with them and they still have to go. It doesn't really make them more tolerable, it just somehow makes the idea of them existing a bit easier to get my head around.

I invite you to try it on and see how it fits.

Stuff like this, and other monkeyshines seem to make more sense when viewed in this light.
