What's brought on this interesting post is something that happened to me and the missus the other day. The background is that me and the missus like walking and try to walk to places if we can i.e. not take the car. And, of course, we save the world in the process.So...the missus wanted a rechargeable fan from Aldi to add to her collection of about 8 f..king fans (excluding the ceiling fans which she won't use because she's scared of them). We walk into town about 4 kms away and I take my kickscooter. We buy the fan which is reasonably light and I secure it to the scooter with a "stretch cable". And it worked very well. She walked and I pushed the scooter. We probably looked a sight but we are old so...who gives a f..k? Anyway...we got off the main drag and into the boondocks where we have the shack. Half way along the road this dude stops and asks if we want a lift. And this is the thing. The folk who ask us if we want a lift, and we often carry stuff home from the shops, are not grey-haired old types or trendy young enviro-types but the Aus equivalent of US Southern Boys - big, strong young men in pick-up trucks! Quite touching really, especially given we'd be diametrically opposed on political issues except, perhaps, border-control.But I got to thinking...maybe these young men had been raised right? Look out for folk in your neighbourhood or something? Dunno.
