Because you're shy? Do you have a hard time canceling doctor's appointments, too? Self-hypnosis, brah. You'll be canceling gym memberships like a pro. ✍️🥴👍🏻

You do not know pain until you've tried to cancel a XM radio subscription

Specifically on gym memberships. They want you to sign up and not go. They hope that you will sign up and not go. If every member went regularly, they wouldn't have nearly enough capacity to facilitate their membership.

And, fact is, most people who sign up stop going within months of signing up. Their whole business model is based on getting paid even after you've gone back to being lazy and quit. Usually, you enter a contract and cancelation isn't possible, and the contract auto-renews giving you only a window to cancel.

I pay once a year for the whole year, no contract. I get the same discount for paying for the whole year as anyone gets for their monthly paid terms.

I bought dumbbells. Game. Set. Match.

I got tired of having to wait for machines at the gym, and the time wasted going to and coming back from the gym. I use the dumbbells for arms/legs/shoulders/back, wrist roller and wrist curls for forearms and do push-ups for chest (3 sets using the dumbbells (flat) and 3 sets of incline using whatever piece of furniture is available -- I start low and do 1 more push-up every workout).

I wish I hadn't been such a balls-to-the-wall asshole in my younger days. That's how you get injured. Go slow. Consider working out to be a life-long hobby, so no need to go to too fast. You're going to want to workout in your elder years, too.

What lb weights do you recommend for a little at home setup. Can I get away with 10, 15, 25. 1 or 2x of each?

Don’t forget the smaller ones either, they are very very useful too. But yeah, what you have there and maybe a set of 35’s and 5’s always buy these in pairs.

[ - ] Jimmycrackerson 1 point 2 monthsFeb 10, 2024 00:52:18 ago (+1/-0)

Is it very important to have them in pairs? When I was locked up a while back, there were like 10 weights total for 100 of us.

Most people didn't work out. And the ones who did weren't always at the same time. But I would just grab one, do 7-15 reps. Switch arms and do the same. Then switch back.

I wasn't super serious about gaining mass or anything, just enough feel good about myself everyday.

Yeah I get that, but having two ensures you have two when you want to use both. You can’t just magically create one on the spot. A better safe than sorry sort of thing.

I only have one of each dumbell from 10 to 60 atm. I also bought a dumbbell set during covid that has 2 dumbbell bars and 200 lbs of free weights.

I do a set with my weakest arm first and then match it with my stronger arm. When I can do 3 sets of 10, the next workout I up the weight 5 lbs. This holds for all the 1 arm exercises that I do (bicep, tricep, back [rows], shoulders [overhead press]), first the weaker arm and then the stronger arm immediately afterwards.

I log it while I workout with a notepad app on my laptop. When I start a new routine and the weights are lighter, I will take a 1 minute rest between sets and 1m&30s between body parts. I eventually increase the between set rest to 1m&30s and the rest between body parts to 2 minutes as the weights become heavier. Try not to rest for more than 3 minutes.

This is my current routine:
curls
hammer curls
tri extensions
kickbacks
overhead press
shrugs
push ups flat BW (body weight)
push ups angled BW
bent over rows
deadlifts
squats
calf raises
wrist curls
wrist rope curls

I do them in that order because I am more concerned with my upper body strength than lower body. You can do them in whatever order you wish, of course. It is a full-body workout.

Rep range: 8-12 for bodybuilding

edit: for calf raises I stand close enough to a wall so that when I go on my tippy-toes, I can steady myself with my chest on the wall and hold it for 2 seconds.

Thank you for the advice brother.

I'm in pretty decent shape alone from steelwork everyday. But there is much room for improvement.

I'm not going to waste my time or money with a gym membership. And I appreciate you affirming my suspicions of that.

I like the idea of only 1 of each dumbell.

I joined a gym for their pool. Swimming is the only cardio I can tolerate for very long.

The variety of weight systems is nice for keeping thing interesting. I use the sauna and jacuzzi, too, which is nice. Really does work at keeping muscles and joints massaged and loose.

[ - ] Jimmycrackerson 0 points 2 monthsFeb 11, 2024 02:18:45 ago (+0/-0)

That is understandable. I was thinking of joining a gym, for the swimming pool, basketball courts, sauna, and variety of classes. They don't call themselves a gym though they refer to themselves as a "club". Even though it starts at $100 per month, it's not even about the money for me. It's the pretentiousness of calling yourself a club, when you're clearly a larger gym.

(And niggerball, I know...) but it wasn't always niggerball. And you want an easy way to piss off niggers? Beat them in basketball, and don't act cocky and rub it in their face, like they do. Show that White class and be graceful. They. Fucking. Seethe.

Wasn’t hard for me. Mine was terminated because I wasn’t kikevaxxed. Turned up one more time just to fake cough on everything.

I have a subscription with contract not to change since 2010

My gym has actively tried to cancel my membership on numerous occasions to get me to spend the new rates. I pay less than 20 GBP
