It turns out banning plastic bags at the grocery story doesn't reduce the amount of plastic consumed at all because people just find other sources for plastic:

I work at a restaurant, well a deli really. Boomers ask me for straws a lot. Usually it just ends when I say we ain't got none, but every once in a while they ask why not. You have no idea how much pleasure I take in telling them "we're trying to teach people how to drink from a big boy cup like an adult"
I don't agree with the ban on straws. If someone gets butthurt about not having a straw I'm gonna mock them.
Now they are also cutting down all the trees and ignoring an entire industry of bio-plastics that are biodegradable made from agar, seaweed, avocado seeds, etc.
