My brother and I got caught drinking and smoking weed a few times when we were teenagers. In response my mom typed this "agreement" up that no drugs or alcohol etc were allowed in her house and if found the offending party would be kicked out. She printed it up, framed it, and put it up on the wall for everyone to see. Well it wasn't up for more than a week before I wrote my on "agreement" in the same structure saying basically that you had to be on drugs if you wanted to live there and I replaced hers with mine. Shit you not it stayed unnoticed for over a decade. It only came down when I was visiting her and I saw it. At this point I was in my thirties. I had my mom read it and she thought it was funny as hell. Yeah anyway, this post reminded me of that.

Yeah, that's funny, but I hope after she declared her house rules, you abided by them until you moved out. Her house, her rules.

This is the kind of attitude that lands you in a retirement home wondering why none of your family comes to visit.

That's solid gold! Just proves that even adults miss things. I'm just glad that you have a good adult relationship with your mom. That speaks volumes for the character of a man.

Sure. Just put that right over next to the giant inflatable French "Christmas tree".

hello there.

I grew up in a house with a Jesus picture on the wall. Of course it could have used some reference model to create the facial features. The point is that it wasn't intended to glorify the model or any look-alike, any more than the actor in The Passion of the Christ would be confused for the actual person he was representing. The painting, the actor, even icons or statues are all just shadows pointing towards the true form. So if Ewan McGregor played a Star Wars character, that wouldn't diminish the ability for him to also portray Christ in some fashion.

I get that this post is fake, but the Passionate of the Christ actor argument would be the best approach for defusing that situation.

An idol is nothing in itself. Idolatry comes from within, not without.
