Our own Sol does a nova every 12000 years, and is accompanied by a 'reversal' of Earth's magnetic field, flash heat enough to send tons of oceanic vapor to the atmosphere, uncoupling of the crust from the mantle, massive crust collisions, & followed by an ice age, that previously killed the dinosaurs. Soil and ice core samples show reversals of poles as fast as 80 years after start of magnetosphere decrease. We are now 20% down from the peak, with a decline that started 100 years ago!
