If you can get a real ID that is not linked to your SSN you can do anything. Just say you invaded the US illegally and you will not be charged for any crime you commit.

A real ID has your fingerprint, a 30,000 point facial scan, a signature, and a picture. I'm thinking with that data, a ssn is probably not such a big deal.
I guess even if you change your name on the ID, all that stuff is going to give you away. I don't recall getting fingerprinted. Maybe I don't have a real ID.

More likely your state was in compliance with the standard long ago - RealID dates back to 2005 I believe. It looks like the bare minimum is the facial mapping and the handwriting sample, many States, like my own also choose to meet the full extend of the standard introduced by the Act. No RealID can be issued without individual compliance. I certainly don't have one.
No, it is not. It simply means that at the time you had your original photograph taken, your state already implemented the necessary foundational biometric technologies, like compatible cameras. Each State is required to certify their compliance with the Federal Standards and that is a multi-year process. In your case it appears to have happened in this timeframe so that when your renewal was processed, you already met the standards for issuance. Just because you are not aware of your compliance does not mean it did not happen. No RealID can be issued without meeting the compliance standards. This isn't a dick measuring contest, this is fact.
