God damn do I love this song. There's a video of me very drunkenly singing this the night before my wedding while my buddy played it on his guitar. My future in-laws got to enjoy me caterwauling this masterpiece out at the top of my lungs. It's fuckin ridiculous, and I have not a single ounce of shame about that incident.
My band used to play it once in a while and people loved it. I wouldn't do it often, but: I had a specific song I could play in a bar at 10pm on a Friday/Sat night if I wanted to see a fight. David Allen Coe - Fuckin' all of my friends. I'd see some of the goddamndest fist fights I ever seen during that. It was tried and true.
I first heard it bout 20 years ago at a karaoke night, bar called the valley tavern in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. It was always the last song of the night, and I sang it often given I was usually the only one there with a southern accent. Good times. I ended up getting banned from that bar for eh, reasons. It was probably for the best though.
