Got a facebook account recovery code sent to my email. I don't even have an account.

It doesn't seem to be a phishing scam trying to get me to click a link. There are two links in the message, one to reset a password and one to click on if you didn't request the code. Both of them actually point to facebook.com and not some other domain they tried to sneak in there meant to look official.

I don't have and have never had a facebook account. This is the only email I have from facebook in my entire inbox. There are no activation emails or them trying to spam me anything. I don't have an account for any of their services (facebook, instagram, whatsapp, oculus, metaverse, threads etc).

My best guess is that they have a shadow profile for me that they created on their own and I got caught up in some bulk hacking attempt from some Chinese people with a list of email addresses. But if someone has a good explanation, any insights would be appreciated.

Fuckbook is attempting to encapsulate everyone into their scam. You couldn't pay me enough to EVER, EVER have a fakebook acct. The ONLY ones i see with a fraudbook acct is losers who have zero life.

Most likely a credential harvestor.

Same thing happen to me, kinda. I created a new email. Then I tried to sign up for facebook to contact someone. Turned out that email address had an account already. I ended up logging into and using it for awhile before it abruptly disappeared and I could no longer log in.

It’s a scam. I get them all the time.

I've been getting some weird emails from Facebook. Someone got my old email and logged in. It was a simple name so it must have gotten recycled. They didn't change the password so I logged in and removed that email. Still getting recovery codes.

I also got Facebook emails to another address. I was able to request a recovery code and found it used by some curry nigger.

Facebook does this all the time. I suspect they use it to maintain a database of what IP what account uses. They'll also do this by subscribing you to their spam and making you click an unsubscribe link.

How, if link is to facebook.com

At the very least, someone is having these emails sent to you.

But anyways, don't follow the link. links can be misleading. Type facebook.com into your browser, and go change the password.

You could do a lot of work to make sure this is a legitimate link with no special characters. Or you could just type in the name of the website you want to go to and be sure.

I ignore a lot of these emails and don't change my passwords. It can mean anything. It doesn't necessarily mean they have any personal info.

Also, basically they may or may not have a keylogger on your machine. If they do, they could be hoping you'll use the password so they can log it. You don't know, but changing your password seems harmless if you do it right.

I would do a good virus sweep and then change your password and/or change the password from a different computer.

It's spam, don't open it.

Do you sign up on multiple sites with the same username/password? Once one of these sites gets their data stolen, bots go through different sites and try to login with the stolen credentials. Any nigger could use your email to signup for facebook/whatever gay porn. Its rarer now with every payment service requiring strong ID, but I once had someone open a throwaway online payment account with one of my spam emails. Use a password manager, don't reuse passwords.

It's probably spam. They are good at it. Like, the "c" in Facebook is a character from another character set and thus points to a different website than Zuckerland so they can, at the least, verify there's someone sitting on the other side of your email address.
