It's a duty schedule designed to distract the public. While (or shortly after) some outrage is happening, along comes another outrage to pull away attention.
This is the actual 'memory hole' effect in practice.
The actual premise of acceleration is to overheat the system with manufactured outrages so they end up dysregulating public attention till the feedback loop causes something to break.

I work with power companies doing the truck inspections. Asked many many linemen, troublemen about this.
Because they work with power trismission and distribution. None that I have spoken with have denied that it was the grid and how profits matter more than people.
