Another true story from back in the day

submitted by PeckerwoodPerry to whatever 1.3 yearsJan 24, 2024 21:54:03 ago (+10/-2)     (whatever)

Right about the year 2001 I fell in love with a girl from Pennsylvania. She wasn't crippled, but I met her at the "Ms. Wheelchair America" pageant in Ft Lauderdale. Probably sounds fictional and homosexual, but I have two adopted sisters in wheelchairs, and I was on probation at the time and needed to work off some community service hours. It took place at a beach side hotel, so I figured I was gaming the system.

So we got into a long distance relationship, and we'd frequently talk on the phone for hours. Shortly after, I violated my felony probation. I got arrested for reckless driving and I pissed hot on a drug test. Now I'm fucked, at least I thought I was at the time. I bought me a greyhound bus ticket from South Florida to Philadelphia and absconded, just wanted to go see me girl again before I sat through what I thought would be a ten year prison sentence.

I don't know if any of y'all have spent any amount of time on a greyhound, but strap in I'm bout to tell you about it. I used to see these busses roll through town and I looked at them with a kind of romance, I'd look at passenger planes in the sky the same way. Like "that's full of unique people making their way to unique situations". Were they going to the funeral of a parent, or their daughter's wedding, or vacation? All of those things could be true about the same bus.

So I get on the bus just north of Palm Beach and it's 24 hours (so I thought) to Philadelphia. Now, you might not know this, but racism didn't exist back in 2001. It's true, look it up. I ended up sitting next to this black dude that was also headed to the city of brotherly shove. An unlikely traveling companion, but it probably saved my life.

So we get to Fayetteville NC, and we got a hell of a delay. Ended up stuck in good ole Fayettenam for almost six hours. While there, some local nigger asked me if I wanted half an ounce of hash for $30. That seemed like a pretty good deal, and I hadn't yet learned to never relax. I leave the bus station to go make this deal. Unbeknownst to me, the black dude I was traveling with followed me out. He stepped into the deal, it seemed so strange to me at the time, but when we got back to the station he told me that those niggers were about to rob me. Maybe he was full of shit, but I really don't think so.

Ended up smoking a little and I got so fuckin paranoid that I flushed most of it, which was dumb.

The rest of the ride was mostly uneventful. I did ride past the Pentagon and you could see the damage from 9/11 from I95. I ended up going back and turned myself in to the authorities. Nine months house arrest and an additional three years probation, on top of the couple months in the county waiting for trial. I ended up moving to Philly when I completed that, only to learn that the girl I loved fucked a Jamaican nigger. Stayed up there four years before I came home, but that's another story for another day.

Women do strange things to a young man's mind. Back before smart phones when we actually had to sit with our thoughts and thoughts alone.

I had almost no interactions with niggers in my youth. That all changed when I moved to Philadelphia, of course, but even then I considered them on a case by case basis.

I took greyhound busses from New Orleans to California 4 times. Poverty sucks.

Oh you know that struggle then. Seedy bus stations, making friends on the bus, 3am stops in the middle of nowhere.

Greyhound ugh never again.

Ohio to Chicago quick trip with my mom. Packed bus I saw one chair next to this large black guy and another next to some passed out drunk guy. I told my mom I'd take next to drunk guy and Im glad I did.

He was not passed out he kept trying to push his leg over and act like he was rubbing his leg when it was mine. First time mmm he's drunk benefit of the doubt. Second time "Watch it" third time full force punch on thigh. He sat like a proper girl at church the rest of the ride.

I did the Martin county to Montgomery county route, round trip, like six times. I've spent well over a week of my life on a greyhound. I've got some stories. I learned to both sleep anywhere, and sleep with one eye open. Sometimes I get nostalgic about walking up those steps.

We have Greyhound buses - not sure if it's the same company as yours. Never been on one.

I have, however, travelled on Firefly overnight express buses down here. Uneventfully, I'm pleased to say.

Always leaves me exhausted at my destination and a reminder just how big this damn country is.

It's the same. From what I understand it's run better over there. It's so inefficient here, they literally don't give a fuck if you miss a connecting bus because the driver had to take a shit. Customer service is non-existent. There's a very real probability that you're going to have to spend a day and a night in some crusty bus station with naught but vending machines to find sustenance. More than once the bus I was on got boarded by DEA officers, or local police with drug dogs. I wouldn't ever take greyhound these days, but I'm glad for the experience.

Racism is a construct of fear.

Last year I was working in south carolina. Was in and around Florence inspecting bucket trucks.

Being SC it is full of what I would have called niggers. Most you would as well, kia boys mostly.

I had done this contract the year before as well and got to be a familiar as did my knowledge of firearms.

In a yard around Dillon SC. Real hood, shootings all the time.

Mechanic was with me, but one of the truck crews came up to me, and this dude could barely speak in a way that I could understand.

He was asking me if I could show him how to clean his firearm.

Fucking glock 17 with Trump engraved on the side lol. I said of course I can.

He pulled the weapon and handed it to me without hesitation. To which I dropped the mag, chambered out the one in the pipe, and verified it was safe.

Showed him what we would be using to clean the weapon, explained as to why.

Then showed him how to ensure was clear and remove the slide, the recoil spring and barrel.

Then remove the end plate, the firing pin, channel liner, extractor spring and extractor.

Showed him what each part did and why, the told him what to do in order to clean this weapon.

This man became my friend, his set became my friend. I was able to go into Fayetteville and actually see that place.

Got to ride around in a hellcat demon, got to attend 2 cook outs. And Showed so many others how to not only clean a firearm but how to check them clear and observe proper gun safety.

Wasn't afraid one time. I wasn't relaxed at all and always had my weapon on me.

I do this with anyone I encounter and yes it does burn me at times.

However people generally make friends with me...I ask one thing of people. If I teach you something share that knowledge. If I help you in some way help someone else.
