Russia has been known to just be trying to plug a geographical vulnerability because western Europe plans to invade Russia. Europe does not believe, and never did believe, Russia was going to invade western Europe. They just need the countries that are in the geographic vulnerability.

Again, NO ONE thinks Russia is going to invade western Europe, not even Russia.
