She probably didn't even have to pay first. Thanks again niggers.

[ - ] Lezbollah 2 points 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 10:40:31 ago (+2/-0)

I didn't even know paying first was a thing until like 2000 and I left the northern Midwest. I always went in and paid after. Then I experienced the nigger coast. Soon gas stations back home were doing the same thing. No one born after 1985 will know this was a thing.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:28:05 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, that was a weird switch. There weren't a lot of card readers then either, so you had to guess, in cash, what you were going to need ahead of time. And if you got it wrong, you had to go back inside.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:51:34 ago (+2/-0)

Yep, then gas stations got "sophisticated" and you got your card run under a piece of carbon paper that you had to sign.

Gas got cheap under trump. I was enjoying that shit.

I remember back in the 80's when gas was 80 some cents. Cheaper than that at a couple points.

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 20:33:34 ago (+2/-2)

I dont remember it being 80 cents under zognald.

2 bucks on the low end.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 3 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:29:13 ago (+3/-0)

Reading comprehension.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 22:06:45 ago (+1/-0)

What's that?

I tried solving it using common core.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:29:52 ago (+1/-0)

I should've clarified/now edited to be more clear. Not 80 cents under trump. I meant back in the 80's. Under trump I saw 1:67 for a short while then it stayed in the 1:80 range for a while. That's because he went to saudi arabia and bowed to the king and his first order of business as president was to cut the largest ever military deal in history with saudi arabia.

Because using our replenishing source of oil is too hard.

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 10:28:28 ago (+1/-0)

February 2020 had gas under $0.99 around Detroit. That "15 days to flatten the curve" did wonders at flattening fuel prices.

Didn't last, but was surreal to see again.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 21:49:30 ago (+1/-0)

Didn't last, but was surreal to see again

For real surreal I have seen it at that price since 89.

[ - ] Bufordxl 6 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:53:25 ago (+6/-0)

I had a 55 Chev. and gas was 17 cents. Run all week for $2.00.

I actually did. I had many bad ass cars. I was very fortunate. My dad was a gear head and had a good job to back it up.

My brother had a 1972 Ford Shelby and I had a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4...gas was 29 cents per gallon, in 1980 I bought a Buick Grande National and gas was 50 cents a gallon...but that Shelby was a cop magnet, jacked in the back and 14" slicks in the rear drive with a 3:10 dif and deep spline axles, that fucking beast would spin the rims inside the tires...we used to go to "AUTOMASTERS" in Grand Rapids MI for mod parts...fucking good old days...and always ran Sunoco 106 octane

You would've been way too young for that.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 20:07:39 ago (+2/-0)

Not true. I was 18 in 1988 and when I first got that car, gas happened to drop from around .98 to .69 for a couple of weeks, at the cheap station, ARCO, or AM/PM in Sacramento. But yeah, it was mostly a dollar then.

[ - ] Clubberlang 4 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 20:36:39 ago (+4/-0)

I remember it being around 99 cents. I was sweating my ass off filling up gas cans at a 711 to mow the next five yards.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 22:03:18 ago (+2/-0)

I read your post as you were driving your Nova in '72, Hell, I wasn't even driving back then.

Cars that had balls

The 460 V8 in my old truck from 1989 has slightly less horsepower than the 3.5L V6 from 1996, which has slightly less power than my 2.0L turbo from 2014.

Someday I'm overhauling the F350 and dropping in the 3.5L twin turbo EcoBoost Ford uses...will get more torque than the original 7.5L V8.

Pictures or GTFO

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 10:17:54 ago (+1/-0)

No pictures, the truck is in a barn in another state. Some stats and links though.

https://www.enginefacts.com/ford460/

Max Brake Horsepower: Both horsepower and torque for the 460 from 1973 until 1996 changed many times depending on emission controls, various fuel injection and carburetor setups as well as what the engine was used in. For the most part, the max horsepower stayed between 205 and 275 hp for any factory built motor with max torque ratings between usually being between 345 and 375 lbs.

https://www.tomorrowstechnician.com/keeping-3-5-alive-service-notes-chryslers-v6-engine/

- my mistake...specs I saw before was for the 98 and newer version of the 3.5L V6. Can't seem to find actual torque specs either...doesn't matter, fucker broke a lot.

The engine is rated from 214 to 220 horsepower depending on the model year, and delivers good torque from 2,000 to 5,600 rpm.

https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=134

- not sure how much of an increase in power I have, replaced the exhaust and added a cold air intake

Power, hp 200-252 hp (149-188 kW)/ 5,500
Torque, lb ft 221-270 lb-ft (300-366 Nm)/ 1,750-4,500

Engine I want to replace the 460:
https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=144

- if it's good enough for a Ford GT, it'll be fine for a dually.

Power, hp 320-647 hp (239-482 kW)/ 5,000-6,250
Torque, lb ft 350-550 lb-ft (475-475 Nm)/ 2,250-5,900

They had $1 gas in the 90's, I don't recollect for certain, but I believe it was around the time Bill Clinton was being blackmailed by that ugly jewish whore Mossad plant in the Whitehouse.

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 22:35:17 ago (+1/-0)

These types of posts always fail to account for jewish inflation, making the prices seem more ridiculous than they really are.

Guesstimating June-ish of '73, that would mean those prices are $3.40 and $3.47/gallon in today's dollars.

If we assumed those prices were in $CURRENT_YEAR dollars, then going back to '73 would mean $0.07/gallon.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 22:49:28 ago (+1/-0)

I get what you're trying to say, buy I think your comparison/calculation is fundamentally off.

You're comparing apples & oranges, The better comparison is the buying power of a dollar from 1973 compared to the buying power of a dollar today. I know someone that bought their house in the late 60's and paid UNDER 17K for it. Today, that same house commands just short of 275K, and it not in an especially overly-desirous neighborhood.

[ - ] uvulectomy 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 23:04:33 ago (+1/-0)

You're talking about comparing commodities like gas, to appreciable assets like houses, which is way more apples-to-oranges than I was doing.

$17k in 1968 would be about $150k today, so the house basically appreciated by 83% over the last 53 years.

Sidenote, they might wanna check the wiring in their house and make sure it's not aluminum. Think late 60s is right around the time they were doing that to try and save a few bucks on the electricals. Would be a good time to rip it all out and re-do it properly with copper.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 23:44:07 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, they really screwed the pooch on that aluminum wiring, I can still remember the news reports where they were interviewing Electricians, and they were hailing it as a revolution in home wiring technology. I believe they dodged the Aluminum wire, but, I'll mention it the next time I see him. Thanks for mentioning it.

I was in the process of writing up a rebuttal, but I came across this in my researching a minor point, I think it illustrates my thoughts & sentiments. I was actually surprised at how beaten up the US dollars purchasing power had gotten between 1913 and the timeframe closest to 1968.

Some where around '73-'74.

[ - ] we_kill_creativity 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:04:01 ago (+1/-0)

The one cent difference between regular and premium gets me. Why wouldn't one fill up with premium all the time?

[ - ] Outlaw_Aryan 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:11:25 ago (+2/-0)

Gas had lead in it back then.

[ - ] we_kill_creativity 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:16:52 ago (+1/-0)

Ok then, new question: why would someone fill up with premium ever?

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 22:18:12 ago (+2/-0)

As time went on, Some newer cars were starting to require it, as the government started mandating changes to gasoline.

[ - ] iSnark [op] 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:13:52 ago (+1/-0)

Cars just didn't need it! Regular gas back then didn't have all of the shit they put in it today. There was no "ethanol", It was pure leaded gas.

[ - ] we_kill_creativity 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 19:16:59 ago (+1/-0)

Ok then, new question: why would someone fill up with premium ever?

[ - ] Deplorablepoetry 3 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:19:44 ago (+3/-0)

Detonation or ping can cause catastrophic damage to an engine that requires high octane. Most engines that require high octane or ‘premium’ fuel have a higher compression ratio making them prone to detonation or KA - BOOM in some situations

If the car says premium only, best to pay attention

[ - ] iSnark [op] 2 points 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 22:20:53 ago (+2/-0)

Yep. lots of European cars had different fuel standards than their American counterparts. Think BMW

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 01:03:39 ago (+1/-0)

That 72 nova I had, had a sticker on the radiator shroud that said “use 101 octane or higher”.

[ - ] bobdole9 2 points 3 monthsJan 22, 2024 10:26:11 ago (+2/-0)

Meanwhile I'm doing cartwheels funding non-oxy / no ethanol 93 octane for my turbo.

[ - ] RevengeOfNeri 1 point 3 monthsJan 21, 2024 21:05:59 ago (+1/-0)
