“It is commonly believed that man will fly directly from the earth to the moon, but to do this, we would require a vehicle of such gigantic proportions that it would prove an economic impossibility. It would have to develop sufficient speed to penetrate the atmosphere and overcome the earth’s gravity and, having traveled all the way to the moon, it must still have enough fuel to land safely and make the return trip to earth. Furthermore, in order to give the expedition a margin of safety, we would not use one ship alone, but a minimum of three … each rocket ship would be taller than New York’s Empire State Building [almost ¼ mile high] and weigh about ten times the tonnage of the Queen Mary, or some 800,000 tons.”—Wernher von Braun, the father of the Apollo space program, writing in Conquest of the Moon

Havent read entire paper but the writer suffers in a lapse in logic out of the gate.

He says von Braun was skeptical getting to space, saying it was impossible: "each [of 3] rocket ship[s] would be taller than New York’s Empire State Building [almost ¼ mile high] and weigh about ten times the tonnage of the Queen Mary, or some 800,000 tons.” but then, later, this same author points out how the Ruskies got to space first. This he says is reason to believe the Americans could not have beat them to the moon.

well? Which was it pal?

Are you saying von Braun proved himself wrong and the ruskies made it to space first? Or are you saying von Braun was always right and the ruskies were faking it too.

It seems the author plainly knows von Braun was wrong about his initial rocket math, based on old tech, and lets it slip, all too eager to make one more conflicting bullet point.

Imagine if you had 7,000 tapes of your wedding but your now-hostile wife destroyed (or hid) all of the original footage.

Would you find it bizarre that your friend suspected the wedding never took place?

"Bro, how can you think I never got married? You saw the wedding invitation. Her last name is my last name now. What about the photos other people took?"

"No man. Awful convenient for you to say that. Since all 7,000 original tapes are now missing then I KNOW man (hits bong) I absolutely know you didnt even get married."

Cheap attempt using von Braun's early skepticism, before it evolved.

Ask yourself how you felt about jews 12 years ago. Bet, canvassing your language, you could find the most embarassing quote - not to be interpreted as the final say on the matter.

Is this the laurel canyon writer? He alludes to it. A good writer but, perhaps, should stick to what he knows. Reads like the curious musings a person who yearns to fill his ego; attempting to repeat the success of his previous writings

But remember why the Soviets put missiles in Cuba in the first place.

Then when he failed to leave "orbit" he nuked it. Then when that failed he gave up and died. Leaving on his gravestone the testament of his failure.

Not so fast. You havent considered, yet, the identity of the secret inventor of birds - a wild success.
