There's literally no chance it won't jump to people. They had this same problem over around Finland? somewhere (maybe back in the 70's?). They killed every single deer in the country, waited 20 years or so then re-introduced them.
Most people aren't old enough to remember but white-tails were pretty much hunted to extinction in large parts of the US and were re-introduced, 60's I think. Same thing with the turkeys. Probably around the time the Plum Island engineers were trying to spread Lyme every-fucking-where.
These proteins can last for 20+ years outside the body and can be taken up in plants. Wait until coyotes and wolves start getting it and lose their fear of people. Animal zombie apocalypse, who saw that coming?
