As usual they report the surface level and tell us nothing. I bet the "reporter" thought she did a swell job.

Could be a "shorthand" for the telegraph. Sort of like a zip file for the internet. Telegraphy was expensive, and daily reports of the conditions quickly adds up.

Create a code book, ship that to everyone, and then telegraph the shorthand daily?
