It's the Asian version of a raccoon, red panda. Less bothersome than the trash pandas we have in America, but I still wouldn't keep one as a pet.
I use to know a lady that had a pet raccoon. It was abandoned as a baby and she raised it. Fun fact: you can't litter train racoons. They shit everywhere, and they think it's funny.
Same with chickens. Besides their poop, they are about the cleanest animal ever, except they poop about every four minutes and they do it wherever they are. If it weren’t for that, my chickens would live in the house with me.
"Red Pandas are the sole species in the family Ailuridae. This sets them apart not just from raccoons, but from pretty much every other mammal.
In contrast, raccoons belong to the family Procyonidae, which is a completely different branch on the mammalian family tree. So why the mix-up? Besides the superficial resemblance, early classification attempts lumped them together until molecular phylogenetics steamrolled into the scene and cleared things up with genetic evidence. We're talking about a dating game that went sour as scientists realized they were trying to pair distant cousins.
Now, let's chat about where they do fit in the broader scheme. The Red Panda's nearest relatives – and we’re talking long-lost kind of near – are weasels, skunks, and yes, bears. Actually, their closest relatives are the members of the family Mustelidae (which includes those weasels and badgers)."

But not pandas. That's rather interesting.
Another animal with a similar genetic history is the javelina. They're basically as far apart from other pigs as you can get and still be related to pigs.
