It's just an expanded kernel of corn? Recently replaced Amish Blue with Orville Redenbacher's. Not much difference in flavor, but the Blue is a 'calmer' pop, while the Orville kernels are violently explosive. Kernels will fly out of the air popper, then explode in the bowl sending popcorn flying.

tail end? you're 8 years inside the cutoff of '64, my dad is '60 and i'd say that's the tail end, he didn't have any opportunity to get in on what the early boomers did. but he does have some boomer tendencies

Never microwave anything. I just spent 150k on a kitchen remodel and there is no microwave. Not even a space amongst the custom cabinets for it.

A microwave is a nice last resort if pressed for time. Otherwise, toaster oven it is to reheat!
