Most varieties in the us are self-pollinating figs. We don't even have those wasps in the US.
I've grown figs for 20 years. And the best way to harvest them is to lay cardboard on the ground under the trees. When the fruit drops is the best in terms of full ripeness and sweetness. I never used chemicals so I'd just eat them right there as they fall. Yummy!
