Lockheed Martin's highly anticipated uncrewed hypersonic aircraft, the SR-72 "Son of Blackbird," is allegedly scheduled to take its first flight in 2025.

The SR-72 is widely considered the natural successor of the SR-71 "Blackbird," which set speed records in 1974 and was retired by the USAF in 1998 as the fastest manned aircraft. The SR-72 is allegedly designed to be unmanned, hypersonic, and reusable. Its primary functions will likely be intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) activities.

My grandfather worked on the development of the SR71. We didn’t find out until the program became declassified. For years my grandmother just thought he went to work everyday at Lockheed.

The SR-71 is the most amazing aeroplane ever constructed.

Usually when the latest and greatest is unveiled by the defense industry to the public they are already (secretly) in the testing stage of something better and faster.

Did global warming cause the sound barrier to increase to 4000 mph?

Edit
The SR-72 is allegedly designed to be unmanned, hypersonic, and reusable.

A sweaty Mike Obama confirms….

It is possible to go faster than Mach 1. The SR-71 reached a top speed of Mach 3.4, so the SR-72 may have the potential to hit 6,437 km/h = Mach 5.21299.

So by your reasoning, is there a point in going faster than Mach 1 = 1,234.8 km/h if that's the sound barrier? I guess the SR-71 was already superfluous having achieved a speed more than 3 times faster than the sound barrier.

But is it solar powered?
