It's not about his personal benefit, It's about getting rid of the "Deep State", which,IS what he campaigned under. It's about his love of America, and ensuring that America remains a World power. Running for office, doesn't benefit him financially either, YET, he is.

Um, why would he call for trials? - he literally put his name on the Authorization of operation Warp sped and bragged about it.
