Large amounts of Holland, especially the farmlands is apparently destined to flood.

For the money they are being offered they can just buy land in Germany and farm there. They will also end up with more land.

The amount of food Holland produces is crazy, so it's a real all your eggs in one basket situation. (Holland ranks 2nd in the world for farming revenue only after the USA)

Having the 2nd largest farming sector on what are essentially flood plains is not good for food security

Moving to Socialist Germany would be a very bad idea. They'd be better off, engineering their way out of the flooding problem. Not saying it's going to be easy, but independence and the ability to be self-reliant is definitely worth it if achievable.

The engineering their way out of the flood problem IS flooding the farmlands. It's something they have been doing for a while.

It is a crisis in that they will make one. It really is our bottleneck. Their view is that there may one day be too many people and we may hit the nitrogen bottle neck, so we'll just make that disaster happen today.

Also nitrogen aka fertilizer is a major use of energy, and that does seem to be their obsession.
