I think the issue is that there is a subset of injuries that are survivable with a helmet, but fatal without one. The thing is, that, you never know IF you're going to be in an accident, let alone if the accident would have been survivable if you just had a helmet on...

True, although the act of riding a motorcycle itself is such an increased chance of death that adding a helmet doesn't help much. 12 steps towards death by riding, one step back by wearing a helmet. (whatever the actual odds, the risk is high)

A huge amount of that risk comes from young, dumb, testosterone-filled men. They buy bike waaaaaay out of their ability to rid, as a first bike, never take any courses, or wear any gear, and the moment they twist the throttle they kill themselves.

There's also the street-shitting masses too stupid to operate a normal vehicle, somehow it's ok for them to have a 49cc scooter. Weirdly, they do stupid shit on that too, get themselves and others killed, and it counts as a motorcycle death(s).

I'm puzzled by people who oppose helmet laws riding their motorbike without a helmet. I'm against helmet laws: we have too many laws, and a helmet law sets a precedent that lies to yet more laws. We need less collective decision making and more individual decision making. The fact that my individual decision would be to wear my helmet on my head doesn't change the need to repeal helmet laws.
