I couldn't finish it, it was shit. But from what Iwas able to understand, it's one of those pieces of media that you have to look at allegorically for it to make sense.

LOL, “friends” told me to watch it, saying it was the best anime ever made. I hate anime, so sure, why not? Dumbest shit I’ve ever seen. Only four sound effects for the entire series, Dad was psychotic sociopath, son (main character) was a beta fag, hot girl was some weird organic robot hybrid. Ending made no sense. Gay.

The end was shoehorned halfassery, and the origin of the imfamous "Gainax Ending" trope.

That show had worse problems than just the ending; it was a barely coherent mess from the start. Intellectuals love that.
